Participants in the Baltimore Gas and Electric (BGE) service area will soon power their homes using their F-150 Lightning trucks during times of peak demand, providing support to Maryland’s electricity grid. As part of the first bidirectional EV power plant pilot program in the U.S., three subscribers from Sunrun are participating in this innovative initiative, which leverages customer-owned vehicles to enhance grid stability.

In collaboration with BGE, Maryland’s largest utility provider, this regulator-approved program will feature three Sunrun customers within BGE’s service region. Each participant owns an F-150 Lightning truck equipped with the Ford Charge Station Pro and Home Integration System, which is available exclusively through Sunrun. This summer, the stored power from these trucks will be utilized to supply electricity to the participants’ homes during peak demand periods, thereby aiding Maryland’s power grid.
